Not sure if you’re ready to make a move to the Good Samaritan Society? Taking a tour, in-person or virtual, doesn’t mean you have to make a commitment.
“It’s always great to start touring before you have to move,” Jaimee Jandl with Good Samaritan Society says.
'Get a vibe'
Jaimee is the senior living sales representative at Good Samaritan Society – Prairie Creek in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She schedules tours for the campus that features twin homes, independent living apartments, assisted living and memory care units.
“Come in. Take a look around. Get a feel. Get a vibe of the building, the community. Then you can kind of narrow it down as you’re getting closer to more of a stable decision,” Jaimee says.
Encouraging you to ask questions with no pressure.
“A tour doesn’t mean you’re making a commitment to move in. A lot of people are so nervous to set up that initial tour because they feel like that means I’m serious but that’s not always the case,” Jaimee says.
Pricing and services
There are several things you can do to get the most out of a tour. Administrator Noe Gillespie at Good Samaritan Society – Hays in Kansas says first, be curious.
“A lot of people ask, what’s the cost and what do we offer for services? Those things may include just meals, all utilities in one package, maybe an exercise center or there’s social activities going on as well,” Noe says.
You can find costs for each location on the Society’s website. When you’re visiting in person, you can discover if there’s a waiting list and get a sense of the neighborhood.
“I think of one last tour that we gave, they wanted to know how the bathroom was set up. They wanted to know is it easy for me to get in and out of the room? Not even from point A to B but A to Z. Where else can I go? Where is the location of the grocery store which is pretty close to our campus,” Noe says.
Researching levels of care
Knowing what levels of care are present at each campus is also important. Hays features 1-2 bedroom senior living apartments and memory care units.
“A lot of times I’ve seen where a loved one may live in one area of a property but is well within walking distance to still come see their loved one that’s receiving a higher level of care,” Noe says.
“We are open for in-person touring in all of our service lines," Jaimee says.
Noe says don’t hesitate to reach out. He adds that new residents can take advantage of the Society’s amenities right away when they move in.
“We’re definitely ready and willing to help in any way that we can,” Noe says.
They can even connect you with moving services when you decide to join the Good Samaritan Society family.
