Hebrews 10:24 (NIV) encourages us to be an example for others to follow:
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”
As we strive to serve one another in Christ, we can inspire others to do the same.
What are some of the things we could do to make others’ lives better, happier or more hopeful?
Be patient. When you and another arrive at a checkout or a parking spot at the same time, give up your spot to the other person. Or, let someone in front of you go while you’re waiting in traffic.
And if someone does the same for you, smile and acknowledge his or her good deed.
Be generous in little ways. Pay for the meal of the person behind you in the drive-thru, or the coffee of the person next to you at the coffee stand. Buy someone a treat. Offer your coupon to someone at a store or a restaurant. Make and deliver a meal to someone who is sick or homebound.
Say a few kind words. Praise the exceptional service of a waiter, cashier or grocery bagger. Compliment a stranger’s shoes, disposition or children. Wish someone a nice day.
Offer to help. Open a door for someone. Offer your seat on a bus or in a crowded waiting area. Give a ride to someone without a car. Check on a child who appears to be lost or upset.
