Society Selects Resident Art for Christmas Card
9/18/2009
   < BACK

The Good Samaritan Society will feature a painting by one of its residents for the front of the organization’s 2009 Christmas card. The painting of Mary and baby Jesus was created by Ruthann Janney of Good Samaritan Society – Manzano del Sol Village in Albuquerque, N.M.

Each year, the Good Samaritan Society invites residents at the more than 240 locations served by the Society to submit paintings, drawings or other artwork for the card. The theme for 2009 was Luke 2:7, “And she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn.”

Janney, 76, says the idea for her painting came from a photo she saw several years ago of refugees in India. “I just saw Mary and her child in this anonymous, displaced family,” says Janney.

Janney, who has painted since she was a teenager, was born in Illinois and moved to New Mexico in 1955. She and her husband have been residents of Manzano del Sol Village since 2008.
