Founder’s Day Celebrates Past, Looks to the Future

   < BACK

The Good Samaritan Society has seen many changes since its beginning 87 years ago. In September, during Founder’s Day 2009, the Society’s centers across the nation celebrate those changes, along with the organization’s Christian heritage and mission.

Based in Sioux Falls, S.D., the Good Samaritan Society was founded by the Rev. August “Dad” Hoeger. It was incorporated on Sept. 29, 1922, and opened its first home, a six-room rented house, on March 1, 1923, in Arthur, N.D.

Over the years, the Society has grown from serving a handful of residents to being the nation’s largest not-for-profit provider of senior care and services. Today, the Good Samaritan Society has more than 240 locations in 24 states.
